Q: What is this .NET Framework and why do I need it?
A: StartMenuEx is built using the .NET Framework, and requires it to be installed to work properly. You can download the .NET Framework
here or from
Windows Update.
Q: When I click the start button, a menu appears for a second and then vanishes! Why isn’t StartMenuEx popping up?
A: When running StartMenuEx in Windows XP Home, you sometimes need to “lock” the taskbar. You can do this by right-clicking on the start button, selecting properties, selecting the “Taskbar” tab at the top, and making sure the checkbox labeled “Lock the taskbar” is checked.
Q: All the icons in my menu are the same?!?! Why is this happening?
A: Alot of people have had this problem. As of version 0.2 StartMenuEx attempts to automatically fix this problem, but there have still been a few occurences of this problem lately. What is actually wrong is that another program has taken over the file association for icons, and a custom icon is being displayed instead. You can find out which program by double-clicking an icon file in explorer, and seeing which program it opens with. You need to find a way to remove the file association for .ico files in this program, which should be in Options, Preferences or Settings. Once you have fixed the problem, exit StartMenuEx and start it up again. Icons should be properly visible now. If this didn't work then try restarting your computer (to refresh the icon cache).
Q: Where do I go to report a bug?
A: Select Forum from the menu above and first find the section named Known Bugs and check if your bug is already listed, otherwise find the section named Bug Reports.
